What is the suitable electrode to weld EN-8 material & what precaution one should take welding this high carbon material. With advance thanks,

Krish, EN8 steel with C=0.36 - 0.44 and Mn=0.6 - 1.0, will have Ceq more than 0.45; UTS more than 460N/mm2. Follwoing precautions to be taken for welding EN8: 1) Preheat to 100 deg. C -- use of Oxy-acetylene torch is prohibited; use sulfur-free fuel torch; Temperature control by temperature sensitive crayons or digital pyrometer or contact thermometers or calibrated thermocouples 2) Use low H2 welding consumables to avoid unacceptable hardening and cold cracking. 3) PWHT may be required to meet hardness limitations, if any specified.

Thanks prakash.Can you specify any particular electrode to be used with AWS Classification like E7018,E6010 etc. regards, krish

Krish, SMAW welding process with E7018-1 elecrode will suit the application
