"303 ss corrosion"

Question:

"I am subjecting a press fitted assembly to a 48 hour salt fog test and finding corrosion resulting only in the press fitted areas. Both components are 303ss one is knurled and both have been passivated prior to assy. Can you explain what is happening here."

Answer:

You are possibly experiencing crevice corrosion due to the chloride exposure.
