"Coke Gas Primary Cooler Cracking"

Question:

"I am currently working on a project at a coke plant and during the inspection process evidence of transverse cracking was found in only the circumferential welds. The inspection was performed from the external. These cracks were found during the visual inspection process. Materials are 516 -70 and joined using a sub-arc process. I am looking to speak with others that may have had this problem."

Answer:

As the cracks are external, perhaps in-situ metallography would help explain the cracking.
