"Citric acid passivation of stainless steel"

Question:

"Are their any advantages/disadvantages to passivting 300-series stainless steels with citric acid vs. nitric acid? Any information would be greatly appreciated!"

Answer:

Citric acid is commonly used for removing ferrous contaminents than for passivating. Nitric acid is more appropriate as a passivating solution.
