"Heat resistant stainless steel"

Question:
"I am attempting to determine what type of product I need to use inside of a catalyst unit for a wood stove. The original manufacturer has stopped serviceing parts and I need to replace the seperator place between the inlet side (gases from the fire pot) and the outlet side (burned exhaust from the catalyst out the chimney). The original plate lasted about 15 years but now seems to warp each time the unit is fired up. The temperature probe indicates approximately 2,000 degrees f. when operating. This plate is about 12" wide and almost 15" long with several bends in the middle resembling an alligators back. These are either for strengthening or for helping to mix the flue gasses prior to entering the catalyst."
Answer:
For oxidation resistance to 2000F with an alloy that should be readily available you might consider type 310 stainless steel. Be aware; however, of the thermal expansion issues involved with this alloy at elevated temperatures and that load or pressure bearing ability at temperature is not addressed with this suggestion.
