"heat treating austenitic stainless steel"

Question:

"I have samples of austenitic stainless steel in as cast state (primary product), and I want to obtain austenitic structure with heat treatment. which kind of heat treatment must I do to keep this duration?"

Answer:

Solution annealing, followed by rapid quenching will dissolve precipitated carbides but will not remove the original dendritic structure. The only method that I know to eliminate the dendritic structure is to cold work then re solution anneal the material. The cold worked grains will recrystallize (If sufficiently cold worked) into a more equiaxed structure.
