"Stainless steel"

Question:

"Can you give me a basic answer on why some stainless steel is magnetic and some is not."

Answer:

Magnetic stainless steels are those with body centered cubic structures (ferrite, martensite), or those that contain bcc phases. Non-magnetic stainless steels are those with 100% face centered cubic cell latices (fcc).
