"Corrosion of Tin Plating"

Question:
"I have some electrical connections that are tin plated over copper. The tin has corroded/rusted and I am needing a process for removing this corrosion."
Answer:
You might first try gently scrubbing (or place in an ultrasonic cleaner, if possible) with a solution of Alconox, a phosphate based detergent. If that doesn't work, try a dilute solution (~10%) of inhibited hydrochloric acid, being careful not to contact other metals/alloys in the equipment or component. Rodine 214 is a common HCL inhibitor.
