The HCl is used up in the reaction over a period of approx 1.5 hours. Then the mixture is neutralised and the methylene chloride is subsequently evaporated off. From your experience can this be carried out in a 316L SS reactor?"

I would not use a 316SS vessel for your proposed service. The potential for pitting and chloride SCC is high.
