"329 stainless steel"

Question:

"Have you had experiences with 329 duplex stainless steel? The material is solution annealed at 1750 deg F, and water quenched, can I still heat the material up to 1950 deg F for 2 hours then air cooled and not expect any deformation or fatigue crack?"

Answer:

You should be able to heat 329SS to 1950F and slow cool without cracking. However, you would be advised to consider the effect of the heat treatment on the resulting ferrite-austenite phase ratio and the effect of the slow cooling on carbide precipitation and corrosion resistance.
