"Raney Nickel"

Question:

"Has anyone familiar with Raney Nickel catalyst? I'm searching for a suitable material for our valve body and trim, the only info I received from our end user is that raney nickel is very abrasice catalyst when it is in the operating condition of 400 psi at 120 deg F. Is it corrosive catalyst?"

Answer:

I am familiar with Raney Nickel catalyst as it applies to alcohol/diol processes. I do not believe the catalyst is in itself corrosive; however, this opinion does not include the corrosivity of the reactant or product involved in the reaction.
