 Corrosion Of A Rene 80 Nickel Alloy Gas Turbine Blade

Microstructure of a Rene 80 nickel allaoy blade from the 1st stage HP section of a gas turbine. The blade suffered hot corrosion from exposure to molten sodium sulfate. The exfoliated, porous O.D. scale can be seen at the top of the photograph with sulfide particles in the white layer underneath. The base metal contains unresolved brown gamma prime particles in the nickel alloy matrix. Electrolytic CrO3, 400 X.
