Hello, Have anyone experience the corrosion of Spheroidal Graphite Iron with the chemical called PAC ( Poly Alumina Chloride )?Temperature is at ambient condition about 36deg C. Appreciate the help. regards.

Dear Rahimi: Thank you for your posts on our corrosion and materials discussion forum. Please consider registering as it provides several useful benefits. Regarding your most recent question, can you supply additional information regarding the chemical properties of the PAC? i.e., its ability to hydrolize, it's resultant pH in water, its effective chloride content, etc. In aqueous media, we would anticipate that the cast irons, including spheroidal cast iron, would be similar to carbon steel. In soils, their corrosion resistance is typically superior to the wrought carbon steels. David Hendrix The Hendrix Group Inc.

Actually the corrosion occured on pump's impeller. The pump is pumping raw water and only 1ppm PAC is injected at the suction. Our Water Treatment guy said that this will not cause any effect. ( no reduction in raw water pH ).Checked in ASM H/book that corrosion rate of SGI increases significantly when there is presence of chloride and pH below 7. But not sure if 1 ppm PAC can produce this effect. regards. Rahimi

Rahimi: I would not think that 1 ppm PAC would have a significant effect on the corrosion of CI. It sounds like your problem lies somewhere else. David Hendrix The Hendrix Group Inc.
