Is 316 SS generally satisfactory for pipe flange bolts in marine atmosphere near coastline? SCC is my primary concern. Thanks Joe

Joe: The temperature is probably too low for chloride SCC. Depending on the distance from the shore and the time period, rainfall, etc. some pitting/staining may eventually be anticipated. Hope this helps! David Hendrix The Hendrix Group Inc.

I just discovered th use is on a pier but, with normal temperatures, it sounds like this will still not be a major issue. Thanks for the info. Joe Kadlec

Make sure you passivate before installation to make sure you get all of the free iron off the surface and chromium enrich the surface to get the best life of the parts.
