Dear Gonsalez: Cast HP 40 does not have good as-manufactured elongation values. 5 to 10% are numbers that we have seen. David Hendrix The Hendrix Group Inc.

Gonsales HP alloys - as cast - have room temp elongation of 11%. It is used as hanger supports in Petro Chemical plants / Fertilizer platns in reformer furnaces operating at 850 - 1000 deg centigrade - in naphtha cracking /methanol plants Actually HP 40 grade have much higher oxidation and cree resistance at 950 to 1000 deg centigrade temperatures. Elevated temp resistance - corrosion /oxidation / creep reistance properties are good for HP 40. The elongation normally specified is 8% for centrifugal castings and 6% for static castings. However, our experience shows that it is possible to get 10% by adopting proper melting practice. T.R.V.Kochappan Chief Executive Nitin Castings India. E-mail: ncl@bom5.vsnl.net.in
