One of my client is using a low concentration of Clorox Bleach (10%) to decontaminate their sewer system which is 316 S.Stl., and I know that typically Bleach is very bad for s.stl. Does any one know of any testing data that I can refer to which will tell me at what concentration, bleach and HCL is safe for s. stl.?

Nalo: If the contact is extended, a 10% bleach solution could certainly result in pitting corrosion of the 316SS. Help this helps! David Hendrix The Hendrix Group Inc.

You can run a search online to see if there are any published papers on this. I have personally seen MANY bleach corrosion problems and tests. If you take a piece of 316ss and immerse it in a dilute bleach solution and bubble air through it you will see rust on the steel within 24 hours.
