[updated:LAST EDITED ON Feb-04-05 AT 10:45 AM (CDT)]Hello and thank you for this very helpful and informative tool. I have a condition on a building roof in New Orleans where there is a lightning protection system installed consisting of aluminum componants. The building has architectural Zinc panels, soffits and trim that are all in direct contact or near contact with the lightnng protection devices. Where the lighting proction devises are in contact with zinc, there is a whitish film or discoloration in the zinc petina. Any comments or advice? I am not getting any help from the Zinc manufacturere's rep or the lighting protection specialists that were both involved with the construction of the aforementioned building in New Orleans. I thank you for your free service and for your response in advance gratiously thankfull Adrian Rodriguez

meceengr: The white film or deposit is probably a zinc oxide or zinc carbonate corrosion product. Hope this helps! David Hendrix The Hendrix Group Inc.

Mr. Hendrix, I will make use of your information very informally. But is the aluminum causing this oxide to form? Is there anything I can try to remove and to repasivate the zinc? Most greatful Adrian

The application of a liquid insulator between the two materials would solve your problem although it would be consider maintenance as it may require re application from year to year. Terry
