Can carbon steel ERWS Welded pipe be used instead of seamless pipe in molten sulfur service with the same degree of corrosion reistance .Regards

Ahmed: It's always safer to use seamless carbon steel (cs) to avoid quality problems with ERW welds; however if the ERW welds are made correctly without defects and are properly heat treated, they should exhibit similar corrosion resistance as the base metal. Understand that if oxygen/moisture contaminate the molten sulfur, corrosion rates of CS can be quite high. Hope this helps! David Hendrix The Hendrix Group Inc.
