Hi all, I have an outdated copy of ANSI B 31.3 (1993 ed). Please tell me the tolerance (clause K 332.2.1) for pipe flattening. Regards and thanks in advance. Chakra

Chakra Ovality or Flattening as described to B 31.3 [332.2.1] to: 8% for bends subject to internal pressure 3% for bends subject to external pressure Note that ASA B 31.3 does not permit removal of metal to satisfy ovality (flattening) tolerances. Also tighter tolerances may be required for bends requiring passage of internal insepction tools. 332.1 indicates that bends shall be substantially free from buckling (also referrred to as wrinkling), but no tolerances are given. This topic should be an internal arrangement between purchaser and the bend or fabricating vendor at the time of P.O finalization. If you wish to get further reference, refer latest amendments to ASME B 31.3. You can also refer Casti Pulishing - Practical Guide to ASME B 31.3 Process Piping - Glynn E Woods / Roy B. chakra, While this piping topic is interesting and timely, it belongs on another engineering forum. This forum, of course, deals with corrosion, materials For example you should post this on www.eng-tips.com ....but I believe that you have been there.....I have seen your name. MJC
