ASME Sec. III Part C / SFA-5.18 speaks about CS TIG Fillers. Starting from ER 70S-2 upto ER 70S-7 the min. & max. %C are 0.07 & 0.19 respectively for all but min. & max. %Mn gets increased from (0.9 --> 1.5) and (1.4 --> 2.00) respectively. Q1. What could be the basic effect of increasing Mn in the Mechanical Properties of all weld metal? Is the effect of % increase of Mn is only reflected in their Impact Properties ? Q2. But as per Table 3 of SFA 5.18 for all grades of above filler Mechanical Props. are kept same ?? Q3. So far as impact properties of the above fillers are concerned ER 70S-3 seems to be inferior than ER 70S2. Is it so? Q4. Normally we use ER 70S-2. Please mention and share your experience where and how we are / can use other fillers i.e. for ER70S-3 upto ER70S-7 ? my regards DM
