Hi, I need to characterize the aluminum-bronze - Cu 10Al 5Ni 5Fe on SEM. Doing that with a 3 micron polishing doesn't reveal the dendritic microstructure of the matrix. I can only identify the Fe-rich kappa-4 phase. My question is - which chemical etchant will reveal my microstructure without ruining the quantitative eds measurement ?

Tal You cannot ge this by regular chemical (manual) etchant. This has to be special electrolytic etchant which will reveal both dendritic structure and fe-rich kappa phase to only remove 3 micron surface polishing. Not sure at the moment which electrolytic etchant will give both dendritic and iron rich kappa phase. I am sure you can get some information on recent publications on SEM work with micro-structure related conference papers of ASM / Journal of IIM UK, etc Suggest looking at SEM / TEM conference proceedings for this. Trust this is of help to you C.V.Srinivasan Nishi Engineers Pvt ltd India jan 12,2006 >Hi, I need to characterize the aluminum-bronze - >Cu 10Al 5Ni 5Fe on SEM.
