Our customer supplied roller rings for anneal. We have performed an anneal heat treatment cycle per ASTM A182 table 1 with resulting hardness of 375 BHN. This seems a high hardness for an anneal. Does anyone have any experience with hardness of this material in the annealed condition? Regards Fritzcoinc

Fritzcoinc: A hardness of 375 BHW also seems high to us after a true anneal. David Hendrix The Hendrix Group Inc.

Since posting this question I have learned that the reduction ratio from billet to ring is 25:1. So total reduction to ingot is greater than that. Would that have some affect on this materials abillity to respond to an anneal? Regards Fritzcoinc

Fritzcoinc: An anneal above the AC3 transformation temperature should soften the material regardless of the reduction ratio of the original billet. Hope this helps! David Hendrix The Hendrix Group Inc.
