Can anyone please confirm what is the limit (%mol.) for carbon dioxide upto which SS 316/316L can be safely used as trim material for in-line instruments e.g. control valves, regulators, etc.? I know there is a temperature limit of 60%C2°C on these materials beyond which they are not recommended due to chloride stress corrosion cracking problem.

S. Janakiraman Assuming you mean carbon dioxide dissolved in water, in the absence of inorganic chlorides, there are no maximum limits that we are aware of. Hope this helps! David Hendrix The Hendrix Group Inc.

Janakiraman CO2 removal and regeneration towers and exchangers in ammonia plants, all over the world, use S.S 316 L or S.S 304 without problem even at hgiher temperatures in the range of 100-130 deg cent. Control valves, regulators in this system are designed with .S 316 trim materials. Trust this helps you C.V.Srinivasan Nishi Engineers Pvt Ltd India June 23, 2006 E-mail:nishi@vsnl.com >Can anyone please confirm what is the limit (%mol.) for >carbon dioxide upto which SS 316/316L can be safely used as >trim material for in-line instruments e.g. control valves, >regulators, etc.?
