Hello there! Could anyone please point me to where I could find consistent information regarding the effect of pH on the resistance of austenitic stainless steels to chloride-induced cracking? I have an application where a basic (pH about 8) water+glycerol solution (3:1 proportion) at 60%C2ÂșC is contaminated with about 20,000 ppm chloride. One of my options, CPVC, is incompatible (not-recommended) with the glycerol content at that temperature, so I will have to tackle this with a metallic alloy. Carbon steel is ruled out by pitting, whereas austenitic stainless steels I believe would easily crack. Will I have to resort to using the duplex or superaustenitic grades? Thank you.

Hello here you can find a graph for resistance to SCC of varioues alloy, (stainless steel, duplex..) as a function of temperature and chloride concentration http://www.sandvik.com/sandvik/0140/internet/se01598.nsf/cdatas/98A6DA5240941BAF41256618006F4439 S.
