Is the ASTM A285 (HII)-pipe suitable for the transfer of the exhaust gas from turbine generator, which is about 350 oC. If the pipe is insulated with alum-plate and+glass wool, can corrosion under isolation occur?

Dear Sir: Corrosion under insulation (CUI) can occur beneath any insulation that can trap and/or absorb water. At your operating temperatures of 350C, aqueous corrosion would only be expected to occur during abient conditions and start up and shut down conditions. Hope this helps! I think that it is worthwhile to mention the conditions around the turbine in assesing this type of corrosion..... Is the turbine located in a well kept power plant where there will be virtually no chance for corrosion products to build up ? Or... is the turbine located in the midst of a process plant where this type of corrosion has already been found in other nearby systems... Just my thoughts MJC
