We are in the process of collecting information in order to make a descision for the most cost effective and longest life-time solution for repair of 7 off base oil storage tanks with the following specification. The 7 carbon steel tanks were build around 1950 and are located inside a rock mountain. Between the shell of the tank and rock has been poured concrete. Due to temperature changes (ranging from 15 - 90 °C) the tank shell has been (and probably will do so even in the future)expanding inwards at several locations. Due to leakage of water through the rock and concrete the tank has been corroded and oil is leaking out. Previously leakage repair has been done by welding steel plates over corroded areas. We are now investigating a different repair method such as applying some type of epoxy/polyester/?? "lining". The undersigned has been in contact with many other organisations, "lining" producers- and contractors but unfortunately non of these had any experience with lining of these specific type of tanks.
