I AM A DESIGNER WITH AN AIRCONDITIONING COMPONENT COMPANY. I'M USING A 17 INCH LONG ROUND STEEL DRIVE WITH A HEX KEY MILLED ON TO ONE END FOR DRIVING A THREADED STEM INTO VALVE BODY. MY CYCLE TIME IS DOWN AND BACK EVERY 15 SECONDS WITH A MAX TORQUE IN BOTH DIRECTIONS OF 200 INCH POUNDS. MY MINIMUN DIAMETER ON THE DRIVE IN .250 INCHES. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW MY BEST CHOICE OF STEEL FOR THIS APPLICATION. I'M THINKING D2,A1 OR S7 TOOL STEEL POSSIBLY HARDENED.
