We would like to know if 316-L is appropiate for Ion exchange vessel and collectors construction, or if an internal lining is required. Vessels will be used for production of Deionized water conductivity <1uS/cm, regeneration of resins with HCl 5% and NaOH 5% 1 hour every week.

Diego: We would not recommend using 316LSS with HCL. Consider using a non-metallic lined vessel instead. Hope this helps! David Hendrix The Hendrix Group Inc.

Thanks for your answer our first alternative is to use a Rubber internal lining from Blair Rubber for vessels in contact with HCL 4-5%, is there another alternative? What about vesels in contact with NaOH 4-5%? is 316-L appropiate?

Diego: At ambient temperatures, 316LSS should be acceptable for %7E5% NaOH service, provided that the NaCl content is kept low. Hope this helps! David Hendrix The Hendrix Group Inc.

Any particular reason why 316L cannot be used with HCL? what exactly happens pysically or chemically?
