SS321
Any specific reasons to select SS321 thermocouple sheath over SS316. The thermocouple is installed within a SS321 thermowell

Dear Sir: 321SS should probably be more resistant to certain corrosive media when the component contains welds. 321 contains elements to prevent sensitization from chromium carbide migration. Hope this helps! David Hendrix The Hendrix Group Inc.

321 is a common sheath material. Since it is protected from the process fluid by the thermowell, it appears that the designer is trying to maintain materials compatability at high temperature. Use of 321 in the thermowell is a more serious issue and requires more details about your application and process fluid good luck
