I recieved the following question and I could use help answering it. xxxxxxxxxxxxx In my office there is material callout code. (ex. p11-ss304, p12-304L, p13-ss316, p14-ss316L etc.,) I asked to my office if its an international code or an Office code. They said no, this is only for our office code. I am asking you, Any international code is available. If available please, send the details for my reference. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx I know there is a listing of 'P" numbers and their definitions but I am unable to find it.

Penn... Yes, there is a "P" number material code and it is contained in the ASME boiler and pressure vessel code as well as the ASME piping codes. The "P" number is assigned to groups of materials in order to develop weld proceedures and for other purposes. The "P" number you have noted above seems to have nothing to do with the ASME designation. Regards -MJC

refer ASME B31.3 Table A-1 for P number grouping for piping materials or ASME SECTION IX (QW422) for BPV material
