We have an evaporation column which is made of carbon steel. The column is running at 145C and pressure about 0.6barg and pH around 10-13. With this condition, can somebody gives advise whether citric acid can be added to the column? The citric acid will be used as an agent to optimize current process condition.

According to NACE COR-SUR Database Carbon steel is listed for citric acid service with the following specified range. Concentration(%) temp. (%C2°F) corrosion rate (mpy) Steels, Carbon/ Low Alloy citric acid 5 %E2%80“ 15 (%) 25 %E2%80“ 125(Deg.F), >50(MPY) Steels, Carbon/ Low Alloy citric acid 5 %E2%80“ 60 25 %E2%80“ 75 >50 regards,
