Sir, What is the maximum rate of travel permitted for Single / Double deck floating roofs based on which the rate of filling or emptying from the tank can be established. Does any of the API or NFPA codes specify the maximum rate of travel. I am presently designing a floating roof tank for crude oil, the tank dimensions being 79 meter I.D by 20 meter height with a 1200 mm Inlet nozzle. At the desired pumping rates the floating roof would rise approximately 1680 mm in one hour. Is this O.K for a Single deck floating roof with foam seals. desparate for a reply Ashish Nair Senior Design Engineer (Vessels) FEDO, FACT Cochin, KERALA - 683 501 INDIA Ph. 91 (0484) 2545451-59 email fedoash@yahoo.com

Dear Ashish: We are not aware of any maximum travel rates for floating roofs in API Standard 650. Hope this helps! David Hendrix The Hendrix Group Inc.

I suppose that will be automatically limited by inlet & outlet nozzle sizes. Regrading guidelines --- I don't remeber any such guidelines which is actually being implemented in operation. Regards PLC
