We have an oil jetty which is located 3 kms from the shore in indian ocean. What is the best system of painting to combat corrosion for at least 5 years of operation. 1)Splash zone 2)Piles area 3)Platforms above piles One of the vendor has suggested for splash zone/piles/platforms with polyamide cured epoxy primer with glass flake reinforced polyamine epoxy and final coat with aliphatic polyurethane. Is it ok to withstand the aggressive condition and UV protection. regards krish

There are 3 different areas having different aspects. As per your life expectancy of 5 years you have to design your corrosion management system accordingly w.r.t. technical strength.Definitely it is always favoured to apply unified system for all to give comfort to purchaser as well as applicator and job. But on case to case basis there can be certain differences. Thus here you should never go by conventional paint system but should apply some specific system. For Splash Zone : Best Option = SA 2 1/2 Surface --> 2 coat Styrene based Vinyl Ester Epoxy System @ 1500 - 2000 micron / coat Alternate = SA 2 1/2 Surface --> 2 coat Solvent free Glas flake loaded good quality Epoxy system @ 1000 micron / coat For Pileas area and Platform :- SA 2 1/2 Surface --> 2 coat Solvent free Glas flake loaded good quality Epoxy system @ 1000 micron / coat . This system also used at helidecks as having good abrasion resistance which is required for any deck. regards DM
