Dear members, We are experiencing the high corrosion rate on the corrosion coupon installed on the down stream of the NHT feed/effluent heat exchanger. As the corrosion protection mechanism wash water is added. API-571 states that the velocity of the stream shall be between 10 ft/s to 20 ft/s for the CS material. We would like to determine the velocity of the stream. Could any one shed some light on how to calculate the velocity in the pipeline and the Air coolers tubes. If any reference available on the web would be very appreciable. Regards, Shabbar Hussain

There are Ultrasonic Flow Meter instrument that can do it. But as a very crude method you can put some immissible colour liquid at the flow inlet and calculate it's exit time at the outlet -> get construction data lenght of flow and can calculate real time velocity.
