there is errosion in the header of CCR boiler tubes. it is A335P11. we want to change material to higher grade. which type is better. 5chrome, 9chrome the same as tubes or other materials. thank you for your cooperation.

Dear Majid, It is important to first get the exact nature of failure. Firts try to establish that it is just the erosion problem or the combination of the erosion-corrosion problem. Upgradation with the higher amount of Chromium steel would definetly offer better erosion protection as increase in the chromium content offers increased wear resitance. In order to get closer to the erosion problem, it would be advisable if the eroding substances shall be identified and approach shall be taken to reduce/eliminate the presence of eroding substance. let me have your feed back. [updated:LAST EDITED ON Nov-22-05 AT 09:25 AM (CDT)]Upgrading to 5 or 9 Cr will increase your corrosion resistance. However, for erosion you might want to investigate a stelite overlay (hard facing) where the erosion is taking place. Good luck! Scott
