To prevent/ mitigate Napthanic Acid Corrosion (NAC) in CDU Exchangers and upstreams , Caustic neutralisation is done . But it has been established that too much caustic i.e. "Na" increases coking tendency in the downstream segments of the crude flow. Please educate me why & how "Na" attributes for Coking trends ? regards

Mere by addting caustic will not pevent Nap.Acid corrosion, but it can neutralise to some extent.Addition more amount of caustic will leads heater tube plugging. The reason behind is formation of sludge after reacting with fluid stream. These caustic sludge over period of time will accumulate the bends/high pressure drop areas and cause fouling as well as causing cracking. Over and above Na in the excess level can poison the catalyst in Hydrocracker unit.
