Does ASME Section IX QW 211 intend to mean that the bend and tensile tests have to be cut from 1 single coupon? Is it permitted to weld two 2 NPS coupons and remove the bend specimens from one coupon and the tensile sepcimens from the second coupon, if you can not get all the specimens from a single coupon?

Harold For ASME Section IX - QW 211 - a basic premise is that a PQR /WPS test coupon conforms that all essential variables are met by Code user. The choice of test coupon form is at the discretion of the Code user, provided all essential variables and other Code requirements are met. Sound weld metal, other than notch-toughness applications, is considered by Section IX , as having the same mechanical properties in the samples tested (whether its a plate or pipe or irregular shaped forging). Paragraph QW 202.1 - Mechncial tEsts- states that QW 451 specifies the tye and number of test specimens to be tested to qualify for grooove welds. TAble 8.1 - has modifgied QW 451 to represent only the typpe and number of secimens required for groove welds. However, if in QW 451 any single test piece fails to meet the acceptance criteria the Code user has to carry out re-tests in all sampling test coupons. QW 202.1 provides an alternative bend test in QW 451.2 for special conditions. As a Code user, although you can take two independent sampling for tension or bend test separately, provided all mechanical properties met the acceptance critirea, each Code User should satisfy to meet sampling per Table 5.2 and also Table 8.1 while performance evaluation of WPS / QR. You are also goverened as per QW 463.1 (a) Fivure 8.1 or Figure 8.2 for specimen removal for PQR/WPS test.
