Dear All, I am a Inspection Engineer at a newly LAB ( LINEAR ALKLY BENZENE) and NP ( Normal PAraffin Plant ) in Saudi Arabia. We dont have any history of Inspection of plant Equipment. Can anybody please tell me , how to establish the inspection interval or frequency for Plant static equipment. As all vessel,exchangers,reactors,Heaters, are new. Thanks all . regards, Mumtaz Abbas

Dear Mumtaz, As it is a new Plant u have to collect all the base level 1st data of thickness. The measurement location of all equipment and Piping can be done as per reference of relevant API codes. Inspection measurement frequency is also written in relevant codes. Inspection plan need to be developed for each of the equipment. The development of inspection interval and extent (inclusive inspection techniques) must take into account the: (i) Expected damage mechanisms and the locations of the possible damage mechanisms. Likelihood of these damage mechanisms depend on the medium, temperature, material, contaminants etc. (ii) Rate of progression of the damage mechanisms. Corrosion rate can be estimated by comparing the baseline data with the actual thickness after the equipment have been in operation for approx. 1000 hours or based on history of similar equipment in other plants. (iii) Consequence of the failures Please refer API 510 and API 573 for the details i.e. Development of an Inspection Plan and Content of Inspection Plan.
