Dear All, Our operation department is suspecting a hot spot in one of the tube of a Hot oil Heater. This heater is using Fuel oil and Fuel gas. Can anybody wants to share his experience. but i suspect the color changed , not the hot spot. Regards, Mumtaz

Mumtaz If hot spot is suspected in heater tube, suggest doing infrared thermography to take temperature profile of the tube - if accessibility through windows in the furnace and viewing the hot spot area is possible in the furnace and in the particular tube. You can use a better technology as Acoustic Pyrometer, it is an advanced industrial instrument that provides an automatic measurement of high combustion gas temperatures in furnaces from ambient temperatures up to 3,500 degrees Fahrenheit (1,920 degrees Celsius). A Uniform Temperature Distribution within the furnace is very important in eliminating the tube hot spots induced by flame impingements. Flame stability and burner positioning are very critical to the proper functioning of a process heater or furnace. Flame length, shape and size can influence the process. Long flames can impinge on critical regions of the apparatus causing thermal damage and failure. Acoustic Pyrometer provides highly accurate temperature measurement of heat exchange and heat transfer performance; and allows monitoring of gas temperature conditions, and alerts plant operators concerning impending failures, reducing the frequency of unplanned shutdowns. www.sciengr.com gambrosino@sciengr.com
