Is it mandatory to have earthing connection between the inlet/outlet pipe flange with above ground storage tank nozzles for storage&transfer of crudeoil /petroleum products eventhough the tank shell is having separate earthing system. I understand that for wagon loading/bulk loading the connected hose flange has to be earthed for good continuity. Will it be applicable to storage tank transfer pipe also to avoid static electricity. regards,

Krish It is mandatory under Indian Petroleum Rules for jump-over connections for above storage tanks handling petroleum products and crude oil. It is applicable to transfer pipe also handling petroleum products or crude oil. Earthing values should meet Indian electricity act regulations for value and periodicity of check. Hope this helps C.V.Srinivasan Nishi Engineers Pvt Ltd India Sept 12, 2007 E-mail: nishi@vsnl.com >Is it mandatory to have earthing connection between the >inlet/outlet pipe flange with above ground storage tank >nozzles for storage&transfer of crudeoil /petroleum products >eventhough the tank shell is having separate earthing >system.
