Hi, I am working for one job which need to make welding joint of SS304 to Monel 400. I have no experience on this practice, could anybody give me some information or precaution regarding the job. Besides, is this kind of joint may create galvanic corrosion ? I would appreciate if anybody can give me welding procedure for this kind of job. The welding joint will be for pure oxygen gas pipe line at maximum 50 degree C fluid service temperature and 30 barG pressure. Asep Karmana E.Alfi

It will be very difficult to find a proper filler metal for your Job. SS304 and Monel are very distant on galvanic table; for sure in such welding you will get galvanic corrosion. Why don%E2%80™t you make your joint through flanges with a proper gasket system to avoid metallic bolting contact between flanges? Regards Luis Marques

I agree with the wise statements above. Development of proceedure for this particular welded joint will be difficult to make and the welded joint will always be a source of doubt. For an oxygen pipeline, why cannot a mechanical joint (pipe flanges of different materials) be made at the change in material ? -MJC
