Hi I am a new member of this forum. There was an elbow failure in a kerosene recovery unit due to impingement . I have suggested use of ASTM A234 WP 22 ( 2.25 Cr 1 MO) in place of A234 WPB. The exixting piping is A-106 Gr B. Will there be any galvanic problem between these two metals and how to weld these carbon stees and low alloy steel

Manshumi Before welding A 234 WP 22 fitting with A 106 B or before replacing , analyze why the A 106 B fitting failed due to impingement. Is it due to high impingement velocity? Is it due to throttling of valves or some other orifice in between in the system> Is it originally designed in a way that the velocity in the system is higher than rated for A 106 B? Welding A 234 WP 22 is no problem provided you choose appropriate welding electrode for WP 22 alloy grrade and not for A 106 grade . Also take the necessary precaution with proper pre and post heat treatement for and after welding. There will be no galvanic effect between two ferrtic grade steels.
