Dear Sirs, I would like a information if possible: I have a carbon steel with ASTM grain size 7 (according ASTM E112). Can I consider a microstructure with fine grain size ? Note) Can you recommended a Bibiography? Many thanks in advance. Luis

Luis Your C.S with ASTM grain size No: 7 is already a fine grain material. Do you wish to have finer grains than this? E 112 gives the classification of grains as per sizes. Hope this helps C.V.Srinivasan Nishi Engineers Pvt Ltd India April 21, 2009 E-mail: nishi@vsnl.com >Dear Sirs, >I would like a information if possible: >I have a carbon steel with ASTM grain size 7 (according ASTM >E112). Just one more question. Can I classify ASTM 7 grain size as low temperature material (ex: flange A 350 LF2). Many thanks. Luis

Luis No. A 350 LF 2 grades steel should qualify for low temp impact properties and also for chemical composition. Simple grain size does not make to this grade. If your forging has the mech and metallurgical properties matching A 350 LF 2 then grain size will also qualifiy Hope this helps C.V.Srinivasan Nishi Engineers Pvt Ltd India april 22, 2009 e-mail; nishi@vsnl.com >Just one more question. > >Can I classify ASTM 7 grain size as low temperature material >(ex: flange A 350 LF2). > >Many thanks. > >Luis
