We are experiencing re-occuring pipe corrosion in our buildings drain system. Test have come back with a considerable high level of iron sulfate, and higher than normal pH values. We are replacing sections of drain piping with PVC piping, and after 1-2 year periods, the corrosion re-occurs either in front/or behind the new replacement. Any suggestions?

You do not state whether the pipe is cast iron or cast steel. Water-based corrosion is complicated and depends on knowledge of the water chemistry, source and usage pattern. The corrosion could be due to MIC or simple oxygen corrosion. We cannot account for the high pH given your description. Hope this helps! David Hendrix The Hendrix Group Inc.

Existing piping is the original cast iron material.
