Hi, I am designing a closed loop deionized water cooling system for a vacuum tube anode which runs at elevated potentials. The anode is copper and I have been advised to use SS for the rest of the system - reservoir, pump, interconnect plumbing - other than the teflon lined hoses to the actual anode. It appears that 304 SS tubing and fittings are more widely available, and cheaper, than 316 SS. We plan on using threaded fittings with loctite 545 thread sealant - no welding, other than the reservoir itself. The system will operate in a TV transmitter for up to 20 years. The typical DI resistivity required is greater than 1 MegOhm.cm, the average fluid temperature is about 150 deg F and the flow is about 12 gpm. I have found similar systems operating with copper components. The main negative is the frequent replacement of the ion exchange cartridges in the filter - I want to avoid this, hence the desire to use SS. Does anyone have any experience with 304 SS and deionized water? Thanks Andy

Andy: We provide literature search information on a paid consulting basis for our clients. We can help you with that if you need. If your needs are not that great, www.nace.org is a good source of corrosion resistance data. (You will still have to investigate and purchase a printed reference). Hope this helps!
