1st. Excellent Forum. 2nd. How does urine affect 304 SS? I have read many books, looked on line and called people directly to no avail. It does not seem like urine contact with SS has an audience. Any Help is much appreciated Regards Adrian

Adrain: Urine is mostly water with organic waste products such as urea, uric acid, and creatinine, as well as excess ions such as sodium, potassium, chloride, bicarbonate and hydrogen. Concentrations (average values) of major substances in urine are as follows: Substance Water: 1.4 L/day Urea: 1820 mg/100mL Uric acid: 42 mg/100mL Creatinine: 196 mg/100mL Sodium ion: 128 mEq/L Potassium ion: 60 mEq/L Chloride ion: 134 mEq/L Bicarbonate ion: 14 mEq/L pH: 4.5 to 8.0 It should have minimal effect on 304SS except if it were allowed to evaporate, concentrating the chloride ion. At the lower pH and with extended exposure some pitting might occur to 304SS. 316SS would be more resistant. Hope this helps! David Hendrix The Hendrix Group Inc.
