We are looking into an ecomical way of drying salt (NaCl) water at atmospheric pressure to remove the water and discharge the salt. We have two proposals we are considering. One is a Pan Dtyer and thw other is a Ribbon Blender Dryer both made of 316L Steel. We are going to electrically heat them and expect the skin temperature to reach 500 degrees F. We need the dryer to last no more than 2 years. Should we be concerned about stress corrosion cracking?

Rob: Using 316SS for your stated application would not be advisable, in our opinion. You might expect both rapid pitting and/or SCC. David Hendrix The Hendrix Group Inc.
