Im doing an study whit some ss 304L pieces used in food industry, they are used to cook jams whit hot steam (85ºC), and then, they cool down those pieces whit salty water whit 15% of NaCl, at -6 ºC, but the pieces present corrosion of rust, we are going to make their chemical cleaning but im not quite sure if they will have corrosion again when they start to the system, taking notice that the salty water may have some ppm of Fe, that could be the cause of the corrosion, what do you guys think i should do?... also i wish to know if the ss 304L is good againts the salty water used to cool them down...

This is a very common problem in the manufacture of hams and other food items. The brine solution is used to decrease the temperature of the cooling system to meet USDS requirements. It is an ongoing problem. The best solution is to clean and repassivate after each use (you have to do the cleaning anyway). Let us know if you need help with this. Lee@stellarsolutions.net

mmm, we are thinking about using a citric acid flushing after each use, but repassivate after each use is not a very cheap idea after all, anyway, its not in our hands anymore, its the company desition.
