Recently we have faced with leakage in our cooling water pipe lines in one of our plants after more than ten years service. The leakages are due to pitting corrosion in cooling water supply of the plant and it has not seen any leakage in cooling water return until now.The pipes are carbon steel , the condition of water is under control and is the same as the other plants which we have not any problem. I would like to have your comments in this matter. masoud

masoud: It's hard to say what is causing the pitting corrosion at that specific location. Supply cooling water will contain more dissolved oxygen (DO) than the return side. Also, deposits in the cooling water piping resulting from low flow can cause problems at specific locations. Hope this helps! David Hendrix The Hendrix Group Inc.
