DEAR ALL We have to repair a distillation column for solvant in Chemical industry. process condition are Temp. 110%C2°c, fluide Toluene and HCL(concentration ?), Press. vacuum to 4 bar. SS316L. Only the welds are corroded, the repair will be done with Hastelloy C276 filler metal. Finally i would like to know why the welds are corroded and not the base metal.(structural difference ???) Please suggest some URLs where useful informations is available. Azedine welding department ENDEL/SUEZ AZEDINE.KHERBECHE@ENDEL.FR

Azedine: The column welds may be more susceptible to corrosion for a number of reasons, including occluded areas where chlorides can concentrate, welds are usually more anodic to the adjacent base metal, and the welding process may have reduced the chromium content of the weld and HAZ. Hope this helps! David Hendrix The Hendrix Group Inc.
